I’ve got a little picture book dummy idea that is in its nebulous stage and this is just what I need to give myself a kick. Beautifully illustrated steps, so clearly and elegantly communicated. Thank you Katie!

Great overview, thank you! How do you format it to send off? One page of thumbnails and separate final artwork? Or all in one? If this, do you do one DPS per page of pdf?

How big a file size is acceptable? Sooo many questions!!!! 😅

Great questions! Format it all together in one pdf no bigger than 5 MB for easier emailing. No need to include thumbnails in your final dummy. Just refined sketches and final art. Feel free to ask more questions!

Thanks Katie - when I said thumbnails, I meant sketches! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Useful to know to keep file size small - I’ve found that including final artwork bumps up file sizes - is the overall pdf A4 size for example (sorry to ask silly questions, I’m rubbish at the digital bit!)

I'm also terrible at the digital side of things, so I get it! Haha!! I typically format my books in 8"x10" or 16"x10" for the spreads. But picture books can come in different sizes. A book I'm currently working on with a publisher is set at 7.5"x10x5". Does that help?

How do you put it all together once you're done? A PDF with all the pages?
